Descriptions of Cross-cutting Tool Functionality

Tools Available to All Cedar Apps

Security

Access to your data is secured by machine MAC address and/or IP. Data is redundantly stored in your office, and also backed-up in encrypted incremental backups on a off-site backup facility.

Mobile Tools

A mobile field forms management system is baked into Cedar and allows for field staff to sync forms, fill out forms away from cellular networks, and then automatically upload the results by Wifi to the CedarBox upon return to the office.

Contacts Relationship Manager

Helps your team manage phone numbers and emails for all your community (Elders), experts, government and proponent contacts.

Search Tools

All Cedar Apps draw upon powerful database-level search tools. These include pre-indexing Optical Character Recognition and post OCR full text and faceted (field-based) indexing.

Files

All Cedar Apps use the same sophisticated files upload, display and search functionality. We use powerful database-independent search tools to speed up searching.

2-Factor Authentication

Access control can be further locked-down by assigning users physical devices that must accompany an enabled MAC address / IP address and Username/Password. We recommend www.yubico.com keys.

Geographic Information Management

Cedar Apps can ingest all sorts of geographic information files formats, from Google KML to ESRI Shapefile, and stores this data in a powerful spatial-enabled relational database, Postgres/PostGIS.

Descriptions of the Development App Functionality

Development App

Rich per-Project Information

Helps your team see everything about each Project, in one place. Includes all communications, files, maps and discussion.

Spatial Analysis

1-click reports showing overlap and proximity between the Project footprint, and up to 30 reporting layes, which may include TUS points, sensitive habitats, planning polygons. This functionality is connected with Heritage and Ecosystems Apps, which can lend additional layers for Project spatial review.

Email Harvesting

Helps your team manage phone numbers and emails for all your community (Elders), experts, government and proponent contacts.

Actions

Actions are to-do tasks that guide your team to efficiently complete workflows and to remember important steps. Some Action items are automatically created. For example, when a Project is created, Actions are created including: “Send Project code to Contact” and “Upload Project spatial locations”.

Calendar

Helps your team manage phone numbers and emails for all your government and proponent contacts.

Field Form: Site Visit

Collect a standard form with photo and GPS location for each Project site. See form results in the per-Project dashboard as soon as your field staff return to the office.

Team Discussion

Helps your team manage phone numbers and emails for all your community (Elders), experts, government and proponent contacts.

Desktop GIS LiveLink

All Project location data is stored in PostGIS tables, which we can link directly to a desktopn GIS software like ArcGIS or QGIS. In Destop GIS, your staff can make custom wall maps and conduct advanced analysis like cumulative impacts analysis.

Traditional Ecological Knowledge - Points

TEK features identified during Elder/Expert interviews are stored in the Heritage Database as points. These raw features are linked to the Project, Contact (Elder) and Interview. Fields include use, age, alternative name(s), stories and confidence.

Digital Library - Item

Books, articles, letters, maps, posters, interview transcripts, etc. can be loaded into the Nation’s digital archive as text readable (OCR’d) text. Item catalogue information include author, date, review fields and a link to the digital file.

Descriptions of the Ecosystems App Functionality

Ecosystems App

Ecosystem Map Layers
